Merry,Merry Christmas

Merry,Merry Christmas Review

Even though I wasn't a mondo New Kids fan like seemingly every other early-teen girl back then, I did buy this album shortly after its release in that other dimension known as 1989 and I thought it was okay, yet it stuck with me for my not being all that crazy about it.

One *would* think that as you grow older, you'd outgrow the teen stuff (or the so-called bubblegum sound), but "Merry Merry Christmas" retains its charm for me all these years later and I'm very happy to have this album in my music collection again.

Now, there *are* some tunes that sound very dated such as "This One's For the Children" and "Funky Funky Christmas." Then again, the dated sounds of albums are what make, or should make, the listening experience complete for those who were around when it was originally released as well as for those who weren't even a thought.

The album cover captures the feel-good image of New Kids as well as the music itself, with pretty good renditions of Christmas classics such as "White Christmas" and "Little Drummer Boy." In that sense, the 1980's ended on a pretty good note (along with the rest of the string of solid pop albums released that year).

Listening to anything New Kids On the Block does bring a smile to my face. - Donna Di Giacomo
